Legalities
The law requires a Notice of Intended Marriage to be lodged with a marriage celebrant at least one month and a day prior to your intended wedding date. This notice remains valid for eighteen months. This form is completed at our first meeting, at which time I need to sight original or certified copies of your birth certificates and/or overseas passport.
At our second meeting/ rehearsal, a statutory declaration is completed. This is a legal document stating that there is no legal impediment to your marriage.
On your wedding day I will provide you with a presentation marriage certificate. To change your name with government departments you will be required to obtain a registered certificate from Births, Deaths and Marriages after the event. An application form can be downloaded from http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/ or I can do this for you after the wedding.
Both parties to the marriage must be over 18 years of age and the marriage must be witnessed by two witnesses who are also over 18 years of age.
